Fair trade traditional coffee ensures no discrimination against women neither during the production nor during the marketing process. At Intermon Oxfam we want to go a little further. Tierra Madre coffee with arabica aroma is grown by women that have their own land, which is part of the Global Village cooperative in Nicaragua. By requiring women to obtain the property title of their land, we promote changes in land ownership, which typically are in the name of men. These women farmers, besides receiving a fair price for their production and so-called social premium (plus 10 cents per pound of coffee -0.45 kg- for social projects), will receive a gender bonus from the  Global Village cooperative, which, among other things, helps defray the registry of the changes on land property in the name of the producers and also conducts awareness activities for men and women on women's rights.
