The Zayed International Prize for the Environment is the world’s most valuable Environmental award, worth US$1 million. It was established in 1999 by H.H. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, in recognition of the philosophy, vision and achievements of former President, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Mercy be upon him, who worked tirelessly to preserve and protect the Environment for future generations of his country, the region and the world. Awarded on a biennial basis, the Prize recognizes and promotes pioneering contributions in the field of Environment and sustainable Development, The Zayed Prize is classified into three award categories:       

• Global leadership in Environment and sustainable Development: US$ 500,000,
• Scientific/ technological achievements in Environment: US$ 300,000,       
• Environmental action leading to positive change in society: US$ 200,000
